Abstract:
EPI Info is a series of word processing, database and statistics programs for epidemiology.
The programs handle epidemiologic data in questionnaire format and organizes study designs
and results into text that may form part of written reports. The analysis program can
produce lists, frequencies, cross tabulations, means, graphs, and accompanying statistics.
The programs were designed to be installed on a Microsoft DOS operating system.
A 1997 study documented 145,000 copies of the DOS versions of Epi Info and Epi Map in
use in 117 countries. The DOS manual and/or programs have been translated from English
into 13 additional languages.
Extent of Collection: The distribution media contained an installation guide,
DOS installation files, batch files, and device drivers.
Data Conversion:
An extraneous ASCII character was removed from the documentation file.
The "fixed" file was saved with a .TXT file extension. For more information
about data conversion, see
File Processing and Quality Control.
Printed Documentation:
Epi Info Version 5 manual contains detailed information on installing and running
the Epi program, and using the Epi functions.
Minimum Software Requirements: (1) Software capable of reading ASCII
text files. (2) Microsoft DOS operating system.
