Abstract:
These data are prepared from data reported in the FERC Form 2 by interstate natural
gas companies subject to the accounting and reporting requirements of the Federal
Energy Regulatory Commission. The data include financial and operational
data on major interstate natural gas pipeline companies as defined by FERC
classification.
Extent of Collection: The distribution media contained a DOS compressed data
file, a DOS decompression program, a DOS batch file and instructions for
decompressing the data file.
Printed Documentation:
EIA Microcomputer Products: Annual Report of Major Natural Gas Companies
contains a reproduction of FERC Form 2, and documents these data and their record
layouts. The form must be used with the data to determine the type of data reported
by the gas companies in the "Data Field". The documentation also provides
the values of the positive and negative number codes in the "Data Field".
Data Conversion: The compressed data file was extracted and
is available in its original DOS ASCII format. The data file was
translated to ASCII CSV following the field position layout specifications
in the printed documentation. For more information about data conversion,
see File Processing and Quality Control.
Minimum Software Requirements: (1) Statistical software capable of importing
ASCII CSV files.
- ASCII text - text files can be read by most file viewers and
word processing software.
- ASCII data - text data files can be imported into most
statistical and database software. Data values may or may not
use separators. Common separators are commas (ASCII CSV), tabs
or spaces.
Files: DOS ASCII files contain carriage returns. ASCII files do not contain
