STUDY DESCRIPTION: This data collection contains seven years of California's baseline death data by cause of death (ICD 9th Revision). Data variables include detailed information about the decedent, the place of death, and medical data related to the death. For each decedent, cause of death variables include the underlying cause of death, the underlying cause of death group code and the contributing cause of death. Users can view the record layout file for a complete list of variables for this data collection.

EXTENT OF COLLECTION: Documentation + ICD codes (9th revision) + data file.

• CODEBOOK: These data are documented by a Record Layout file and an ICD Cause of Death Codes (9th revision) file. With the exception of the underlying cause of death ICD number and group codes, the record layout file includes all variable names, locations and values. You can find names for ICD codes in the cause of death codes file.
