TITLE: Census Tract-Level Data, 1960: San Diego, CA

STUDY DESCRIPTION: This data collection includes Census Bureau 1960 population and housing complete (100%) and sample (25%, 20%, and 5%) census tract level counts for San Diego, California. Summary file tables 1-16 contain complete table cell counts and tables 17-63 contain sample table cell counts. Census tract population and housing counts are available for age, race, sex, marital status, years of schooling, detailed occupation, family income, housing quality, persons per room, occupancy status, rent and value of housing units. Summary counts for the nonwhite and Spanish surname population are included in the data file. A list of all table cell counts (variables) is available for this data collection. The San Diego, California census tract data file was extracted and processed by the Social Science Data Collection (SSDC) staff of the University of California, San Diego from Census Bureau data processed by DUALabs, Inc. and archived at ICPSR (Study Number 7552).

• TABLE CELL VARIABLES (HTML): This file includes all of the population and housing table names and table cells (variables) in the data file.

• CENSUS TRACT MAPS (PDF): This file includes San Diego County census tracts in 1960.

• SPSS DATA MENU (ASCII): This text file was created by the SSDC staff and is used to display the variable pick-list in the SSDC subsetting menu. This file contains all of the variable names, labels and column locations and can be edited by users of statistical software to create syntax files.

• SSDC WORKING FILES (zip archive): The zip archive includes all of the files used by the SSDC staff to generate the SSDC data file. See the codebook for more information.

• DATA FILE (Excel): The SSDC 1960 San Diego Census Tracts data file. This spreadsheet is similar in format to the printed 1960 Census Tracts San Diego, CA. volume. The spreadsheet suppresses the same census tract sample counts that are suppressed in the printed volume.

• DATA FILE: This study has 1 data file available in three formats: (1) ASCII (2) SPSS Portable and (3) Excel. The format of the ASCII data file is listed below:
